$5 Friday

Randall’s has been doing $5 Friday specials for years now. Usually I don’t bring them up because they’re not stupendous. This week I decided to, mostly because I’ve been wanting to make shrimp and grits.

This week’s that I might stop by for:

That’s about as cheap as shrimp get that aren’t in a can. Let me know if you’ve got a shrimp and grits recipe you think I should use.

Those pork tenderloins are in 24 oz. packages, which makes for $3.33/lb, not too shabby. They had a wide variety of flavors at the Randalls I was in.

The Cornish hens, well, They seem like they’d be fun, but I never do end up buying them. If you do, tell me how they turn out!

Happy shopping, Cheepsters!

Happy Ad Thursday!

Hatch pepper time is here!  Hatch scones, Hatch salsa, Hatch tortillas, Hatch it all up!  It’s the high holiday season for the favorite pepper of grocery stores, so brace yourselves for roasters, bags of blackened peppers everywhere, and some ninny making Hatch limeade and cooling it off with artisanal ice cubes.

File_003It’s Hatch chile pepper time! The High Holy Season of the Pepper Most Favored by Grocery Stores, with Hatch scones, Hatch salsa, Hatch marinades, Hatch brownies, and Hatch tortillas.  Can you eat it? You can Hatch it up!  So prepare yourself when you head out for a shop for the wafting smoke from the roasters, the piles of bags of blackened peppers, and probably some ninny selling Hatch limeade with artisinal ice cubes.

I joked in a Facebook post about making raisins in the front yard the week it hit over 110 degrees, but this week might be the week to actually give it a try, with the cheapest grapes I’ve seen in a long time.  Also spotted–Concord grapes and champagne grapes, which are both fun if you’ve got a fancy party or are just fancy all on your own.

20% off everything frozen at Sprouts.

It seems like half of Randalls is ‘buy four things and get lower prices’, in their ongoing effort to have you walk in the door.  You don’t have to purchase four of a single item–you can get a can of this, a box of that, some pickles and Ziploc bags and get the lower price on each item.  You might want to check their flyer out at the link below and see if any of your staples are on there at a stock-up price.  If you’re not sure, go ahead and ask me!
