Happy Ad Wednesday!

Did you miss the Fiesta deal on pork loin last week?  Randalls pork loin is at the normal low this week, so if you’re kicking yourself you can console yourself with some pork that is still very reasonably priced. Do you find yourself sad about missing anything meat-ish that was 99c/lb? Then head over to HEB for the 97c/lb pork butt.  Happiness is yours!

The back-to-school deals are in full swing, with various breakfast, lunch, and snack deals.  I’ll write them up separately tomorrow so they’re all together, but for now, if you’re hoping to stock up the pantry with cereal, you might as well hit that aisle.

Asparagus is cheap at Sprouts this week. Note on asparagus–don’t buy that whole dang bunch. That’s too much. It’s perfectly fine to pull some out of the blue rubber band and put it in a sack, just don’t make a big mess of the display.  Same with grapes–you don’t have to buy the pre-bagged amount. Take as much as you want, and leave the display neat.

This week I’ve also got some seafood listed. I don’t buy seafood at Fiesta, but at these prices it’s something to consider–lobster and crabs are not often this inexpensive.

Whole Foods Freakout!

They must have heard about the other meat sales this week, because Whole Foods is having a heck of a sale on roti chickens.

That should make Friday night a pretty simple meal, if you’re a WF kind of shopper!

Fiesta Limit, Going Viral

Fiesta has long had the ‘limit 2 with additional $10 purchase’ meat specials. I’ve used those sales to stock my freezer for years.  Recently Randalls had one, with brisket super-cheap and a limit of 2.

Now HEB is joining in.

Which is great. I love meat sales where I can fill up the deep freeze. This is the cheapest pork butt I’ve seen in a while, keeps in the freezer forever, and can be used in so many dishes.

Screen shot 2015-08-18 at 12.17.28 PM

Cheaper than tin foil and twice as tasty!

It’s also the simplest way I know to feed a crowd–make it ahead, pull it, and warm it up before people show. Put out rolls, coleslaw, tortillas, and pickled onions and you’ve fed 15-20 people for about $25.

This deal starts tomorrow, so you’ve got time to rearrange your freezer.

Happy Ad Wednesday!

It’s all hatch chile peppers all the time this week. Randalls is even offering free roasting if you buy 20lbs, when normally they’re a refuge for people that don’t want to smell like a garden burnt down around them.

Aside from peppers, pork loin is a great deal at Fiesta. I haven’t seen in this cheap in a while.  They’ve also got sugar on the cheap. Grapes, peaches, cantaloupe and cauliflower are all at cheap summer prices, so stock up and freeze while we’re at these low prices!

It's mail, it's mail, it's flat, it's paper, it's good!

It’s mail, it’s mail, it’s flat it’s paper, it’s good!

And look what came in the mail! People with me for a while know that my mail is erratic. This is two weeks in a row that my circulars showed up on Tuesday, just like they’re supposed to. Just like they did until I started this blog, and the universe decided my mail was not a priority.  I’m not getting my hopes up for next week, but would like to thank the universe for these two weeks of normal mail.

Happy Ad Wednesday!

Grapes are less than a buck a pound everywhere, but Sprouts wins the race with 69c/lb green grapes. Given the forecast, if you want to try making raisins, this is your week!

It’s also Hatchapalooza time, with people jamming Hatch chili peppers into everything and anything.  Central Market’s flyer this week has ‘Hatch yellow onions’ listed as a special, with those words next to a photo of an ordinary yellow onion.  People just slap the word hatch in front of anything over at CM, I think. They’ve also got a Hatch chili cheesecake, I like chili peppers of all sorts, but this time of year CM cracks me up–click the link at the bottom to check it out yourself.

In other produce news, avocados are 25c and limes are 12/$1 at Fiesta, so that’s a good thing. Randalls has bone-in chicken breast and leg portions for 99c/lb and sourdough rounds for 99c, which you can put together and have most of a meal ready to go.
